Co-operatives National Law Explained

jennimattila2On the 19 November 2012 co-operative lawyer Jenni Mattila made a presentation on Co-operatives National Law to a workshop organised by Co-operatives Victoria, CEHL and the SouthEast Housing Co-operative Ltd. Download Jenni's presentation.

Jenni Mattila is the Principal of Mattila Lawyers (established 1999). Mattila Lawyers provides legal, commercial, and regulatory advice to public and private sector clients in the water, agriculture, carbon and clean technology industries. MS Mattila was Principal Legal Officer (Registry of Co-operatives, Building Societies and Credit Unions) in the then NSW Department of Business and Consumer Affairs. In this capacity, she was the instructing officer on the Financial Institutions Code (the precursor legislation to APRA.) She was also responsible for legislative policy relating to the development of non-company corporate law including the development interstate of State Owned Corporations Law.

Ms Mattila developed an innovative legal solution in order to ensure the ongoing financial viability of the irrigation infrastructure operators. The specialist dual co-operative structure that she designed and implemented was favourably reviewed by international economists in the Journal of Institutional Economics.
