Co-operatives Australia has written to the Australian Prime Minister, the Hon. Kevin Rudd MP, supporting the call by the Board of the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA) to each of the G20 governments, that the G20 at its meeting in April 2009 in London examine every option in seeking to overcome the current financial crisis, and asking that they give serious consideration to the advantages of the co-operative model of business.
Co-operatives Australia is the national body for State Co-operative Federations. It is an unincorporated body with membership by the Co-operative Federations of New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia, and represents co-operatives in every sector of the Australian economy.
Co-operatives Australia has recently adopted its own statement about the need for governments to give serious consideration to the co-operative model of business - Public Policy and Co-operatives.
Co-operatives Australia believes that what is best for our country includes the co-operative option as part of the solution and that, therefore, the Australian government will support the Australian co-operative sector.
