It is a disappointing response from the co-operative community in Australia - seeming to reflect and reinforce the tendency of too many co-operatives in Australia to deny their co-operative identity and difference.

The Co-operative Federation of Victoria Ltd believes that .coop is an opportunity for co-operatives to rediscover their co-operative origins.

The Federation is firmly committed to .coop not as a panacea but as a practical expression of the co-operative identity and difference and an effective and efficient way of reaching out to the community.

Already, australia.coop has been a remarkable success for the Federation. Over three months since its establishment the number of Australian visits to the site has exceeded any other contact the Federation would have over a period of two years by a multiple of six.

Between 7 January 2003 – 31 December 2004 a record of use and growth:

  • Total hits 350,985
  • Total pages viewed 207,530
  • Total visits 99,187
  • Megabyte (MB) downloaded 22,144
