International Financial Accounting Standards Proposals a threat to Australian Co-ops

The International Accounting Standards Board is proposing to change how shares in a co-operative are treated for accounting purposes - treating them as debt instead of equity.

In the USA the National Cooperative Business Association has already successfully delayed a decision by the USA Financial Accounting Standards Board that would force co-operatives to reclassify member equity as mandatory redeemable debt.
